Re: “Israeli nationalists march in Jerusalem” [A2, June 6]:
I’m writing to protest the protest of the nationalist Jews. These Jews don’t communicate for me. I disavow each their phrases and their actions.
I’m not a rabbi, the president of a Jewish group, and even the chairman of a committee. In actual fact, I’m not a frontrunner in any respect apart from I’m a son of Jews, the daddy of Jews and the grandfather of Jews.
Nevertheless, it’s the proper, no, the duty of any Jew to protest when she or he sees different Jews behaving immorally. This letter is my protest. We’re commanded to hunt peace and pursue it (Psalms 34:14). Meaning don’t pray in Muslim areas. We’re commanded to not abhor Egyptians (Deuteronomy 23:7). Egypt is a Muslim nation.
Though Israel has robust freedom of speech legal guidelines, chanting dying to anyone is morally unacceptable. I repudiate what these Jews stated and what they did. It’s a shanda — a scandal, a disgrace. I urge everyone to disregard them, please.
That is my protest.
