BEIJING: China on Friday (Feb 7)  mentioned it “regrets” Panama’s determination to withdraw from Beijing’s Belt and Street infrastructure programme after the Latin American nation ended its participation within the challenge in a concession to Washington.

“Beijing regrets Panama’s determination,” international ministry spokesman Lin Jian mentioned, urging Panama to “take into account the broader bilateral relationship and the long-term pursuits of each nations” and “resist exterior interference”.

Since profitable the US election in November, President Donald Trump has refused to rule out using power to grab the canal constructed by Washington over a century in the past and later handed over to Panama.
