To the editor: As a lifelong Republican, I could disagree with Adam Schiff on social and financial points. Nevertheless, I’m grateful he’s a U.S. senator. (“Schiff opposes a preemptive pardon from Biden as Trump once more threatens sending him to jail,” Dec. 9)

His fealty to the Structure and rule of regulation is newly demonstrated by his opposition to a preemptive pardon by President Biden as a result of it will set a detrimental precedent.

Schiff’s vigilance within the Senate will serve us all as a deterrent to the perils of governing by impulse.

Mel Spitz, Beverly Hills

To the editor: Making a precedent for a preemptive pardon is completely justified to counter a president-elect’s menace to jail his political opponents.

Michelle Obama was proper when she mentioned, “After they go low, we go excessive.” But when Democrats need to win, it must be, “After they go low, we nip their shenanigans within the bud.”

Possibly the framers of our Structure had been good sufficient to provide the president broad pardoning energy in anticipation of a wannabe dictator turning into president. The pardoning energy is particularly outlined within the Structure; jailing political opponents shouldn’t be.

We nonetheless have our Structure to information us. We’re not a banana republic. If it takes setting precedent to guard our Structure, then let’s do it.

To the editor: Democrats, the place did the admiration and empathy for Biden go?

Underneath these circumstances (having already tragically misplaced a spouse, a daughter and a son, plus seeing threats towards his final remaining son), might we not take an empathetic stance on Biden’s pardoning of his now-only son?

Hunter Biden’s crimes pale compared to President-elect Donald Trump’s alleged crimes and people of others Trump pardoned in his first time period and plans to pardon when he turns into president once more.

I’d actually be happy if office-holding Democrats would cheer Biden on. Given the circumstances, he has each cause and proper to pardon his son. Wouldn’t you do the identical factor?
