Political scientist Shibley Telhami says Biden is permitting his ‘private choice’ to drive US coverage on Israel.
College of Maryland professor Shibley Telhami says US President Joe Biden is making his selections on Palestine and Israel “based mostly on private beliefs, private preferences, private feelings,” and “not essentially pushed by a thought of evaluation of American pursuits at stake”.
Telhami tells host Steve Clemons that Biden’s “incapability to indicate empathy” for the Palestinians is surprising, and that the president’s current warnings to Israel have been pushed partly by his calculations for subsequent 12 months’s election.
All of the speak about plans for “the day after” the struggle are distractions from the real-time loss of life and destruction in Gaza, Telhami says.
