To the editor: Excuse me, however are we ignoring the elephant within the room? This op-ed (“No army technique can cease Mexico’s cartels,” Aug. 26) by no means mentions that america is the world’s No. 1 client of illicit medication. Utilizing army power to fight drug cartels is sort of a determined endeavor that can do little in coping with the basis causes of the drug downside within the U.S.: stress, financial insecurity, poverty and psychological well being points. And with our present state of uncertainty, the issue might be going to worsen. We have to create stronger preventive measures to actually cut back our epidemic dependency. The outdated saying goes: “So long as there’s a demand, there’ll at all times be a provide.” Let’s rid ourselves of the demand.
