The Philippine army’s spokesperson stated in a separate assertion on Sunday that the Philippines “will exhaust all means earlier than looking for international intervention” in its resupply missions.

Manila and Washington are certain by the 1951 Mutual Protection Treaty, a pact that may be invoked in case of an armed assault in opposition to Philippine forces, public vessels or plane within the South China Sea. US officers together with President Joe Biden have affirmed its “ironclad” dedication to help the Philippines.

China claims almost all the South China Sea, overlapping maritime claims of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei. In 2016, a Hague-based tribunal stated China’s claims had no authorized foundation, a choice Beijing has rejected.
