OTTAWA: Canada’s International Minister Melanie Joly will meet together with her Chinese language counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on Friday (Jul 18) for talks on bilateral relations and safety points, Ottawa stated on Thursday.
Joly is making the journey to China, her first as international minister, on the invitation of Wang, the Canadian international ministry stated in an announcement.
The highest diplomats will focus on world and regional safety points in addition to “potential avenues for collaboration on frequent challenges”, the ministry stated.
“Because the world faces more and more complicated and intersecting world points, Canada is dedicated to partaking pragmatically with a variety of nations to advance our nationwide pursuits and uphold our values,” Joly stated within the assertion.
Sino-Canadian relations turned icy in late 2018 after a Chinese language government was detained in Canada and the subsequent arrest of two Canadians in China. All three have since been launched, however Ottawa’s allegations of Chinese language interference in Canada have stored relations strained.
