To the editor: To the letter writers who wrote in assist of pretend grass, I’ve two feedback.

First, plastic recycling is mainly a hoax perpetrated by the plastics business. In the end, virtually all plastic winds up in landfills, the oceans and our our bodies. Faux grass solely provides to this drawback.

Second, pretend grass has completely zero habitat worth. At a time after we are dropping plant and animal species resulting from local weather change, we must be doing all in our energy to create native plant habitats in our private and non-private areas to assist the animals with whom we share our Earth.

To the editor: In an overheating world, there isn’t a excuse for smothering outside areas with plastic or tire waste. Artificial turf is a plastic carpet masquerading as grass, however it’s the actual reverse of cooling, oxygenating, pure grass.

Plastic carpeting might be hotter than asphalt, and it sheds plastic fibers and microplastics which are inhaled, ingested and stick with pores and skin. And, a current examine printed within the journal Setting Worldwide discovered that the chemical substances in plastics can cross the pores and skin barrier into our our bodies.

Grass fields might be engineered to be water environment friendly, sturdy and low upkeep. There isn’t a excuse for exposing kids and athletes to scorching, toxin-laden plastic surfacing.
