Group USA pays tribute to Johnny Gaudreau

Group USA pays tribute to Johnny Gaudreau

Due to a 1-0 win over Switzerland on Sunday afternoon, Group USA gained its first gold medal on the IIHF World Hockey Championship in 92 years. Buffalo Sabres ahead Tage Thompson scored the game-winning objective in extra time, whereas Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman recorded the shutout in objective. 

Following the victory, the USA staff accepted the championship trophy whereas carrying a Johnny Gaudreau jersey in hand.

Gaudreau, a long-time member of the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, in addition to a member of Group USA throughout a number of tournaments, was tragically killed by a drunken driver over the summer time. He would have nearly definitely represented the U.S. at this previous 12 months’s 4 Nations event and on the 2026 Olympics.
