“Brother chief, mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the pinnacle of the motion, died in a Zionist strike on his residence in Tehran after he participated within the inauguration of the brand new (Iranian) president,” the Palestinian militant group stated in an announcement.

Hamas political bureau member Musa Abu Marzuk, who analysts say might succeed Haniyeh, vowed the group would retaliate. “The assassination of chief Ismail Haniyeh is a cowardly act and won’t go unanswered,” he stated.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards additionally introduced the demise, saying Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran was hit and he was killed together with a bodyguard.

Iranian media stated the strike, at 2.00am native time, focused “the particular residences for battle veterans in north Tehran” the place Haniyeh was staying.
