Torrential rain battered southern China on Sunday, inflicting flooding and forcing tens of hundreds of evacuations within the nation’s most populous province, as a waterspout appeared briefly in Hong Kong and forecasters warned of doubtless extreme flooding.

Rain has been falling in Guangdong, which has a inhabitants of about 127 million, since final week.
