To the editor: I learn your article on “closed colonies” of cats and canines used as full-time blood donors with nice curiosity and higher horror. I used to be struck by each the shortage of empathy for the animals in captivity and the tragic penalties {that a} lack of obtainable blood throughout surgical procedure has on a pet (they might absolutely die).
What makes the lives of canines or cats “fortunate” sufficient to be pets extra worthwhile than the lives of canines and cats who’re caged and drained of a few of their blood each three weeks? We appear to overlook that these canines and cats may be pets have been they not born into the distress of a blood financial institution facility.
I hope God seems to be a canine.

To the editor: About 40 years in the past, I went to a veterinarian in West L.A. who I thought-about variety. Sooner or later, I walked via a again room to get my cat, and I noticed a black cat on prime of a field in a naked room.
My “variety” vet mentioned he was there to present blood — completely there, a prisoner. He was not going house that evening and lived his empty life alone like that.
People make the most of all different species; it’s simply endless. These blood-donor animals are in jail for all times with no house or household, and it might all be totally different. There might simply be a system for members of the general public to donate their pets’ blood on a schedule.
There isn’t a such factor as a obligatory evil. It’s merely profiting from different creatures.

To the editor: Let’s cease with the euphemisms. The animals usually are not blood donors. They’re canines from whom blood is taken
