DUBAI: The trail to nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US shouldn’t be closed however Washington’s calls for for curbs on Iranian missiles are obstructing prospects for talks, a senior Iranian official stated on Tuesday (Sep 2).

A sixth spherical of Iran-US discussions was suspended after a 12-day warfare in June, when Israel and the US struck Iranian nuclear amenities and Tehran retaliated with ballistic missile barrages in opposition to Israel.

“We certainly pursue rational negotiations. By elevating unrealizable points similar to missile restrictions, they set a path that negates any talks,” stated Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme Nationwide Safety Council, in a put up on X.

WESTERN FEARS, IRAN’S DENIALS

Western governments worry Iran’s uranium enrichment programme might produce materials for an atomic warhead and that it seeks to develop missiles able to carrying one.

Iran denies these accusations, saying its nuclear programme is for civilian vitality functions and that its defence capabilities, together with missiles, are non-negotiable.
