Netflix has began early talks a couple of sequel to Kpop Demon Hunters, its outsized animated musical film hit that simply grew to become the streamer’s most watch film ever.
Deadline confirmed the discussions Tuesday. Netflix declined remark.
The anime-style film, produced by Sony Footage Animation, has amassed 236 million views on Netflix since its June 20 premiere as of Sunday. That allowed it to go 2021’s Pink Discover on the streamer’s all-time Most Standard English Movies listing.
That milestone, confirmed at this time, comes after a sing-along model of the movie hit large screens within the U.S. this previous weekend, ending No. 1 on the field workplace with an estimated $19.2 million — a primary top-of-the-box workplace end for Netflix. The sing-along model then dropped on the streamer at midnight Sunday.
The Maggie Kang- and Chris Appelhans-directed pic facilities on Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (Could Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), young-adult pop stars in a gaggle known as Huntr/x, whose historical demon slayer lineage has them moonlighting as demon hunters once they aren’t promoting out stadiums and topping charts. When their greatest demonic enemy (Lee Byung-hun) encourages the formation of an equally standard Ok-pop boy band aimed toward stealing the souls of their followers, the trio has to battle more durable than ever to carry the demons at bay whereas holding their friendship intact.
