To the editor: Kudos to movie critic Amy Nicholson for a considerate piece on the politics of “Star Wars” (“Did ‘Star Wars’ train us the flawed concepts about insurrection?” April 23). When the primary movie got here out in 1977, we have been within the midst of President Jimmy Carter-era malaise and stagflation. I bear in mind it. Management was scarce or ignored. The braveness and clear-sightedness proven on the display screen passed off “a very long time in the past in a galaxy far, far-off,” which means that any attainable relevance to 1977’s issues was merely coincidental. That political sanitizing has continued within the sequels and prequels.
