To the editor: It’s loopy to me that with a lot of the world actually burning down round us, we’re nonetheless apprehensive about fuel costs going up. (“One other refinery shuts down in California. What occurs to fuel costs?” Oct. 18)
As a substitute we must be targeted on ending our habit to automobiles, which is what received us into this mess to start with. Low fuel costs simply lengthen that habit and don’t replicate the environmental value that automobiles have taken.
I’m disillusioned that the governor is losing time attempting to maintain fuel costs low when he must be encouraging an all-hands-on-deck effort to construct the infrastructure we have to ditch automobiles for good. Think about dwelling in a world the place we aren’t dependent upon the whims of the oil business to afford our day by day commute.

To the editor: The closure of those refineries is sweet information for the atmosphere. It reveals the fossil gasoline business is on the decline.
You quote the California Fuels and Comfort Alliance Alessandra Magnasco as saying that our leaders are extra involved with political theater than with actual issues. Information flash for Magnasco: Local weather change is an actual downside.
Some have questioned whether or not the state can meet the aim of all new passenger automobiles and vehicles being zero-emission by 2035. These closures, certainly, will assist transfer us in that route.
