The Paris police chief Laurent Nunez has described the match on the Stade de France as “excessive threat” and Israel has urged its residents to keep away from the fixture. The authorities worry it might turn into one other flashpoint following final week’s violence within the Netherlands.

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier can even attend the match, in addition to former presidents Francois Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy.

Macron’s presence on the match is aimed toward drawing a line after “controversies and misunderstandings” in latest relations between France and Israel, a member of his workforce stated.

The safety context has clearly impacted the attendance, with solely round 13,000 spectators anticipated on the sport in a venue that holds as much as 80,000, French Inside Minister Bruno Retailleau has stated.
