Lebanon’s state-run Nationwide Information Company (NNA) stated an “unidentified navy drive” carried out a “sea touchdown” on the shore of Batroun at daybreak on Friday.

The drive “went with all its weapons and tools to a chalet close to the seashore, kidnapping a Lebanese man… and crusing away into the open sea on a speedboat,” the NNA stated.

Reporting from Batroun, Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan stated the raid was “unprecedented”.

“That is northern Lebanon; this isn’t the southern suburbs or the border components the place now we have seen Israeli troops on the bottom. That is an unprecedented raid,” he stated.

“It is a very critical incident. We haven’t seen an extraction or abduction like this for a really very long time. That is one thing the Lebanese authorities will likely be taking severely. They’re already on the bottom right here.”

Israeli journalist Barak Ravid cited an unnamed Israeli supply as claiming Amhaz is allegedly a senior member of Hezbollah’s naval drive.

Lebanon’s Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamieh quoted the nation’s state-run Nationwide Information Company as saying Ahmaz was a civilian naval officer.

He stated the person was kidnapped simply 100 metres (328 ft) from his dwelling and questioned why UN Safety Council Decision 1701, which was supposed to resolve a 2006 struggle between Israel and Hezbollah, was not being carried out.

“There’s communication with UNIFIL as a result of the Lebanese coast is monitored by it. UNIFIL’s mission is to observe the Lebanese coast periodically from Naqoura to Arida,” Hamieh stated in regards to the UN peacekeeping drive – which Israel has repeatedly attacked in current weeks.

Kandice Ardiel, a spokesperson for the UN peacekeeping drive in Lebanon, denied allegations by some native journalists who stated that UN forces helped the touchdown drive within the operation.
