ROME: A person carrying a knife was arrested on Sunday (Jan 28) throughout routine checks of individuals heading in direction of St Peter’s Sq., a police spokesperson mentioned, on the day the pope provides his weekly handle to the crowds.
The spokesperson mentioned the person was a 51-year-old Italian who underwent checks within the morning in By way of della Conciliazione, a highway main as much as the St Peter’s Basilica on the Vatican.
In a confrontation to disarm the person, one officer reported being flippantly harm, police mentioned.
The spokesperson added that there was no proof suggesting the person was carrying the knife for terrorism-related functions and he was arrested on fees of injuring and resisting an officer.
