Re: “The Boldt determination’s enduring legacy, 50 years on” [Feb. 9, Opinion]:

As we have a good time the fiftieth anniversary of the Boldt determination, it’s vital that our elected officers honor the treaty rights affirmed within the determination by restoring and conserving our salmon inhabitants. Changing the providers of the Decrease Snake River Dams, that are pushing salmon runs to extinction, requires pressing motion and is the apparent place to begin.

Thankfully, the Biden administration helps a daring new blueprint with appreciable federal funding. The Columbia Basin Restoration Initiative was developed by the 4 Decrease Columbia River Treaty Tribes and the states of Oregon and Washington. Now it’s as much as Northwest congressional leaders to push for a future with ample salmon to honor tribal treaty rights and a sturdy Pacific Northwest financial system.

The Northwest has a plan to revive and preserve salmon runs inside two fish generations, however our Columbia Basin salmon are operating out of time. Name your members of Congress as we speak and ask them to help the Columbia Basin Restoration Initiative.
