To the editor: Immigration and Customs Enforcement has now arrested a Palestinian, Mahmoud Khalil, who has everlasting residence, due to his political exercise (“ICE arrests Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia College protests, his lawyer says,” March 9). Regardless of what the immigration officers instructed him, lawful everlasting residents do have a proper to due course of in a deportation listening to earlier than being deported. There are record of offenses which may get any person deported, however political activism is formally not one. Nonetheless, Khalil is in good firm if he will get deported. The U.S. despatched Charlie Chaplin into exile and deported Marcus Garvey and activist Emma Goldman, presumably for his or her political positions.
