STOCKHOLM: Sweden on Wednesday (Jan 3) recorded its coldest January evening in 25 years, with a studying of minus 43.6 levels Celsius within the far north as a chilly snap hit the Nordics.

“To place that into perspective, that’s the lowest January temperature in Sweden since 1999,” Mattias Lind, meteorologist at Sweden’s nationwide climate company SMHI, advised AFP.

In January 1999, a temperature of minus 49 levels Celsius was recorded in Sweden, which tied the document set in 1951.

Lind mentioned that Wednesday’s measurement was made on the Kvikkjokk-Arrenjarka station in Sweden’s far north.

“It’s the lowest temperature that has been recorded on this particular spot since measurements started” in 1888, he mentioned.
