SINGAPORE: Two crew members on an Australian ship had been injured on Friday (Aug 30) after it was hit by a Singapore-flagged container vessel at Perth’s Fremantle Port.

The container ship, Maersk Shekou, hit the stationary ship STS Leeuwin II at about 6.20am Singapore time, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) mentioned in an announcement.

Maersk Shekou was shifting into the harbour when the incident occurred. The ship was assisted by 4 tugs and was below pilotage on the time, which suggests it was guided by a mariner by native waters.

STS Leeuwin II, Australia’s largest sail-training ship, was berthed on the port. Its mast collapsed after being hit.

The hull of the container ship was broken.

The Maritime Museum’s roof was additionally reportedly broken.

Two crew members on the Australian ship have been reported to endure “some accidents”, mentioned MPA, including that the 26 crew members on the Singapore-flagged vessel are reported to be protected with no accidents.

Maersk Shekou is at the moment moored at berth in Fremantle Container Terminal to help with Australian authorities’ investigations. No air pollution was reported, mentioned MPA.

The company is in touch with the vessel supervisor and the Port of Fremantle Authority.

“Because the flag state of Maersk Shekou, MPA will likely be investigating the incident,” it added.
