Mezhyhirya park, a 56-hectare property that used to belong to former president Yanukovych, is a monument to what many think about Ukraine’s first massive win over corruption.

After he fled to Russia, protesters flooded his mansion to see for themselves what they’d lengthy suspected – opulence paid for with thousands and thousands of {dollars} from taxpayers.

“What does Mezhyhiria symbolise? It symbolises a way of life stolen and hidden from individuals,” stated Iryna Golovatenko, an official consultant of the Mezhyhirya Residence.

At the moment, the once-private residence is a nationwide park open to everybody, and homes a museum showcasing the luxuries of its former proprietor.

“We weren’t requested if we wished the property constructed or not. Nevertheless it’s good that it was left to the individuals, and never inherited by some officers. It’s good that we now have it,” stated a park customer.

Ukraine believes eradicating corruption is nearly as necessary as victory on the battlefield, as will probably be key to profitable its existential conflict with Russia.
