EXCLUSIVE: Vietnamese vampire thriller Daydreamers is getting a U.S. launch through Darkish Star Footage, which has set a restricted theatrical run from Might 2nd and a digital launch from June third.
From producer-director Timothy Linh Bui (Three Seasons), the movie is about 400 years in the past, reimagining vampire lore in Southeast Asia. As European vampires confronted extinction, they fled to Vietnam – then often known as Annam – bringing with them the darkish curse. The movie introduces a darkish supernatural world set in modern-day Ho Chi Minh Metropolis, Vietnam.
Solid contains Vietnamese famous person Chi Pu, the singer and actress with greater than 20 million followers who grew to become an area sensation after her efficiency within the hit Chinese language actuality sequence Sisters Who Make Waves. The expanded synopsis reads: “Daydreamers follows Nhat, a younger vampire raised in a secluded river group that suppresses its thirst for human blood in hopes of regaining misplaced humanity. The movie is without doubt one of the first vampire movies to emerge from Vietnam, and the U.S. theatrical launch will likely be focused at cities with massive Vietnamese diaspora audiences.
Vietnamese-born American filmmaker Timothy Linh Bui produced The Housemaid in 2016 which was launched by IFC Movies and distributed in 25 nations, and has a remake within the works written by Oscar winner Geoffery Fletcher. He and his brother Tony beforehand made Three Seasons which received the Grand Jury and Viewers Awards at Sundance, and Patrick Swayze movie Inexperienced Dragon, winner of the Humanitas Prize.
