The Minnesota Vikings aren’t going to let quarterback Sam Darnold go anyplace if he retains tossing lengthy landing passes.

Early within the second quarter of Sunday’s house sport in opposition to the Inexperienced Bay Packers, Darnold threw a 31-yard landing cross to third-year large receiver Jalen Nailor on a 2nd-and-8.

Darnold — who signed a one-year, $10M deal in free company — has shattered expectations this season. By his first 15 begins, he has profession highs in passing yards (3,776), TD passes (32) and passer score (105.4).

Though the Vikings drafted rookie QB J.J. McCarthy with the tenth general choose, Darnold’s stellar play will possible persuade Minnesota to re-sign him.

“[The Vikings] spent a first-round choose on J.J. McCarthy final spring, and Darnold is in for a giant payday. Regardless of that, after conversations with a workforce supply, one factor is evident: The Vikings need Darnold again in Minnesota for 2025,” wrote The Athletic’s Dianna Russini in a chunk revealed Saturday.

Holding the QB appears sensible for Minnesota. Darnold, 27, clearly fits head coach Kevin O’Connell’s system. Plus, McCarthy suffered a season-ending knee harm in preseason and may have extra time to get well.
