To the editor: The 2028 Olympics, if they’re held in Los Angeles, will come to be referred to as the “dictator video games.”

Why? Properly, after the president completes his scorched-Earth overseas relations plan and creates enemies out of allies, those that are left standing will share a standard however notorious model of governance. We are able to depend on Russia and North Korea. China is a perhaps. And that’s in all probability about it.

Each different nation (and their shut mates) may have suffered ridicule or alienation by the hands of our nice chief. As such, their boycott of the Olympics is an affordable response.

The White Home response will likely be, “Nice, extra medals for us!” But when I used to be a sponsor or in control of ticket gross sales for the L.A. video games, I’d be getting ready for a massacre.

And if I used to be on the Worldwide Olympic Committee, I might have already launched into discovering an alternate venue — one in a rustic that isn’t more and more loathed by the remainder of the free world.

Come to think about it, because the U.S. continues to alienate Mexico (and by proxy Central and South America) together with Denmark (and by proxy most of Europe), a boycott of the 2026 World Cup by these two soccer-crazed areas appears a logical end result.

To the editor: L.A. internet hosting the 2028 Olympics sounded nice final yr. Nevertheless, we aren’t that metropolis anymore. Fires have since burned 1000’s of houses, leaving individuals homeless or dealing with the large process of rebuilding, promoting or doing one thing else.

Everybody acknowledges that there was a housing disaster for years. Now, this disaster is monumental. Los Angeles wants to focus on serving to its residents get well. It is a gargantuan process, and now we have to look inward to heal and suppose how finest to rebuild our hometown.

I’ve examine all the massive plans for the Olympics, they usually sound nice. However are they actually what we’d like proper now? The IOC may step in and transfer the 2028 Video games to a different worthy metropolis, one which doesn’t have the super challenges that Los Angeles faces.

Maturity is the intelligence that tells us once we’ve taken on an excessive amount of, and we should think about the individuals who want our assist and repair. Our mates and neighbors who’ve misplaced all the pieces deserve this love and a spotlight greater than they want the festivities of the Olympics.
