CAIRO: Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis vowed on Sunday (Mar 3) to proceed concentrating on British ships within the Gulf of Aden following the sinking of UK-owned vessel Rubymar.
The US army confirmed on Saturday that the UK-owned vessel Rubymar had sunk after being struck by an anti-ship ballistic missile fired by Yemeni Houthi militants on Feb 18.
“Yemen will proceed to sink extra British ships, and any repercussions or different damages will likely be added to Britain’s invoice,” Hussein al-Ezzi, deputy international minister within the Houthi-led authorities, mentioned in a submit on X.
“It’s a rogue state that assaults Yemen and companions with America in sponsoring ongoing crimes towards civilians in Gaza.”
Houthi militants have repeatedly launched drones and missiles towards worldwide business transport since mid-November, saying they’re appearing in solidarity with Palestinians towards Israel’s army actions in Gaza.
Their Purple Sea assaults have disrupted international transport, forcing companies to re-route to longer and costlier journeys round southern Africa, and stoked fears that the Israel-Hamas battle may unfold to destabilise the broader Center East.
The US and Britain started hanging Houthi targets in Yemen in January in retaliation for the assaults on Purple Sea transport.
