The cash comes from curiosity generated from the frozen Russian funds, not the funds themselves, which stay locked away from Moscow.
Brussels stated 90 per cent of the cash would go to a central fund used to pay for arms for Ukraine, often known as the European Peace Facility.
The opposite 10 per cent would go to the EU’s separate Ukraine Facility to assist the nation’s reconstruction wants.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shymgal thanked the EU for its assist.
“Thanks von der Leyen and the EU on your steadfast assist and this vital contribution to Ukraine’s defence and reconstruction,” he stated on social media.
“We’re grateful to the EU for taking this very important step. This switch will assist us strengthen our defence capabilities,” the Ukrainian defence ministry stated.
Russia nevertheless condemned the “unlawful” transfer.
“That is purpose, after all, for considerate actions in response to such unlawful selections, that are applied by the European Union,” Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman advised journalists.
