To the editor: I agree with editorial author Karin Klein’s commentary on the careless choice made by the Orange County Public Works Division to make use of heavy gear to maneuver boulders in a particularly hazardous hearth space. (“A horrible choice sparked a wildfire, and the general public pays the value,” Opinion, Sept. 12)
Aside from the 23,000-plus acres of environmental devastation, their tragic mistake that set off the Airport hearth triggered me and 1000’s of others to evacuate, upending lives with closed roads, faculties and companies. It additionally put firefighters in hurt’s means.
It’s galling that current fires have been straight or not directly attributable to so-called preventive measures. With local weather change exacerbating hearth threat, we should always be capable of belief that the selections of our public works and utilities don’t themselves create mayhem.
I’m again in my residence now, however I can’t assist however surprise the place the mountain lions, deer and bobcats are, and whether or not one other careless act will threaten my residence and household.
