To the editor: I’m dismayed that the Pacific Palisades and areas of Altadena and Malibu are being allowed exemptions from Senate Invoice 9 (“After outcry, L.A. restricts duplexes in Pacific Palisades,” July 30). I’ve lived within the Palisades and I perceive the residents desirous to retain the exclusivity of the realm, however Los Angeles is larger than the Palisades.

Proper now, I reside in an space of Westwood wherein some streets (mine included) are single-family zoned and a few, together with half a block north of me, are zoned for a number of items (as much as 14, I imagine). Aside from there being an occasional parking scarcity that largely impacts me solely after I put out the trash cans, the additional neighbors should not an issue.

The rationale that further dwelling areas will make evacuation tougher looks as if a justification for NIMBYism. Los Angeles wants extra housing; why not within the Palisades?

To the editor: The pause to think about constructing guidelines within the Pacific Palisades is wise. That is a whole neighborhood that’s being rebuilt below rules designed to handle incremental modifications in mature suburban neighborhoods. Individuals are below stress to rebuild their lives with strained sources and punishing time constraints. Already, a bent towards flat-roofed packing containers appears to be changing the splendidly eclectic structure that developed over the past 75 years.

The bodily nature of the neighborhood will, after all, be modified by this tragedy, however I hope it gained’t be too diminished.

To the editor: We have to limit density in all of our very excessive fire-risk zones.

Quite a few esteemed and credentialed fireplace ecologists agree that density is without doubt one of the best dangers and predictors of construction loss throughout an excessive fireplace. Attempting to drive density into these excessive fireplace zones is harmful, irresponsible and moreover pointless. Los Angeles developed, as required by the state, a Housing Aspect that identifies areas so as to add plentiful inexpensive housing that aren’t in excessive fire-risk, single-family neighborhoods.

Placing extra housing and folks within the path of future fires is insane and needs to be stopped, not simply within the Palisades, however in each very excessive fire-risk zone throughout our metropolis and state.
