EXCLUSIVE: Mubi has snapped up a number of key territories for Portuguese filmmaker Miguel GomesGrand Tour, following the movie’s world premiere in Competitors at Cannes the place it gained the Finest Director prize.

The worldwide distributor, streaming service and manufacturing firm has acquired North America, UK, Eire, Latin America, Germany, Austria, Turkey and India. The corporate will unveil launch plans within the coming months.

Opening in Rangoon, Burma in 1918, the movie follows British civil servant Edward Abbot (Gonçalo Waddington) who flees fiancée Molly Singleton (Crista Alfaiate) the day she arrives for his or her marriage ceremony. Decided to get married and amused by his transfer, Molly tracks him throughout Asia.

Grand Tour was Gomes’ first characteristic to world premiere in Competitors at Cannes, after debuting earlier critically-acclaimed movies Arabian Nights in Cannes Administrators’ Fortnight in 2015 and Tabu, which performed in competitors on the Berlinale in 2012, successful the Silver Bear.

Gomes co-wrote the screenplay with Mariana Ricardo, Telmo Churro, and Maureen Fazendeiro. Produced by Filipa Reis, the movie was shot in China, the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam with three cinematographers, Guo Liang, Rui Poças, and Sayombhu Mukdeeprom.

Uma Pedra no Sapato produced the movie with Vivo movie, Shellac and Cinéma Defacto performing as co-producers and The Match Manufacturing facility, Rediance and Creatps as affiliate producers.
