KYIV: The Ukrainian army confirmed on Monday (Feb 26) its retreat from the village of Lastochkyne in japanese Ukraine, saying the transfer would assist it halt the westward advance of Russian forces.
Lastochkyne is round two kilometres west of the city of Avdiivka, which Ukraine deserted earlier this month.
“Ukrainian Armed Forces items withdrew from the village of Lastochkyne to be able to organise defences… and stop the enemy from advancing additional in a western path,” army spokesman Dmytro Lykhoviy mentioned on tv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned on Sunday it was very important for Kyiv and its Western allies to stay united and reiterated that Ukraine’s victory is dependent upon continued Western assist because the struggle enters its third 12 months.
After preliminary successes in pushing again the Russian military, Ukraine has suffered setbacks on japanese battlefields, with its generals complaining of shortages of arms and ammunition.
Lykhoviy mentioned a brand new line of defense could be established a number of kilometres west of Lastochkyne.
Russia mentioned on Sunday its forces had taken up extra advantageous positions close to Avdiivka and Donetsk.
