JERUSALEM: It’s unrealistic to assume the United Nations company for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, can simply get replaced, its head mentioned on Thursday (Feb 29) within the face of requires its abolition.

“It’s a little bit short-sighted to imagine that UNRWA can simply technically hand over all its actions to different UN companies or NGOs,” Philippe Lazzarini advised journalists on the company’s headquarters in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

“It is an company (that is) fairly distinctive as a result of we’re … primarily offering government-like providers to one of the destitute communities within the area,” he mentioned.

Pointing to training, he mentioned, “there isn’t any one besides a functioning and administrative state which might present a direct training to all these grades, at scale”.

In Gaza, he added, “we have now the largest footprint, we’re offering all the operation platform of the remainder of the humanitarian group”.
